It is not yet uhuru for cultism in Nigerian Universities. This hydra-headed syndrome that has epitomized low-life amongst students in Nigerian Universities needs to be tackled and completely eradicated once and for all.
Apparently, the government of the day have continued to pay lip-service to this bane of University students in the country. There is an urgent need for government to step in and bring to an end the activities of these miscreant on campus and set the University campuses free; thus making it conducive for serious academic activities rather than the farce it is today.
Everyone not just government and the university authorities must play their part to ensuring the the future generation of Nigerians are not decimated by this scourge. The time to act is NOW.
It is time News like this one below as reported by Punch no longer hit headlines in Nigeria:
Two students, who were abducted and taken to a bush in Ikorodu last Wednesday, are now recuperating at a General Hospital in Lagos.
The two students were kidnapped by a five-man gang of suspected cultists and whisked into the bush for an alleged cult initiation.
Okutubo Seun, a Higher National Diploma 1 student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu campus, and his colleague, Ogundipe Azeez, were the victims.
The abduction happened at about 2.14pm at a spot very close to the campus and the victims were said to have been threatened with lethal weapons if they attempted a resistance.
The captors reportedly took the victims to the bush and told them that their mission was to initiate them into a cult group known as the Eiye Confraternity.
During the process of initiation, the victims allegedly declined to obey the directives of their captors and a violent struggle ensued.
It was learnt that the fighting in the bush became very intense that some people moving close to the area got wind of the situation and alerted the police.
When policemen got to the bush, they met the two victims writhing in pain and their bodies covered with blood.
One of the captors identified as Ibrahim Musa, was arrested at the scene of the crime while the four others escaped.
During interrogation, Musa allegedly told the police that he belonged to the Eiye Confraternity and they abducted the two students for initiation into the cult.
He said that his gang‘s mode of operation was to coerce people into joining them and if they resisted, such persons would be abducted and forcefully initiated in the bush.
Attempt to visit the victims at the hospital on Sunday was futile as the police insisted that they would not reveal the particular hospital for security reason.
Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the police were still hunting for the fleeing members of the gang.
