All is now set for this year’s Afro-Caribbean Carnival in the East Midland’s city of Leicester. The African-Caribbean Carnival is the biggest carnival in the United Kingdom outside Notting Hill.

This year’s celebration is remarkable as it also commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Slave Trade. As usual we are expecting a colourful carnival with all the pomp and pageantry that accompanies the yearly celebration; though some high level local council politics denied us last year’s celebration.

There will be something for everyone during and after the celebration; Caribbean foods, drink, music especially reggae, and our dear Leicester boy ‘Mark Morrison’ of the 90’s ‘return of the mack’ hit will be on stage to thrill the revelers.

Of course, there will be the official carnival after party at the African Caribbean Centre; if you haven’t been to that party you haven’t started. Not to worry, yours sincerely will be sneaking about to bring you highlights of the carnival that will feature dances, music, costumes and foods; I have to warn you some of the contents may be offensive.

Grant Listing is intended to showcase the different grants, loans and scholarship awarding bodies, organizations, governments and businesses alike. These awards have different eligibility criteria and are open at different times of the year.

De Montfort University is committed to supporting international students to benefit from study in the UK. For courses starting in September 2007, De Montfort University’s Vice Chancellor is delighted to offer 43 scholarships of £1000 each to overseas students.

The £1000 scholarships will be paid towards the full overseas tuition fees of overseas-status students from any country in the world who wish to study any of the following types of courses at De Montfort University, Leicester:

. Full-time undergraduate degrees in any subject 
. Full-time Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters courses in any subject
. Full-time MPhil/PhD research degrees in any subject

The scholarships are available for courses starting in September 2007 only (or between September 2007 and June 2008 for MPhil/PhD research degrees).

The £1000 scholarship will be made as a one-off payment and will be deducted from the full tuition fee at the beginning of the first (or only) year of study.

Students progressing to DMU through one of our established progression schemes or collaborative partnerships do not qualify for these scholarships.
