Welcome to Imperial College Centre for the History of
Science, Technology and Medicine (CHoSTM)
The History of Science and Technology has been taught and researched at Imperial College since 1963 and CHoSTM in its current form was established in 1992
Hans Rausing Scholarships are now available for students from overseas, the EU, and the UK who are enrolling in the doctoral programme of the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. There is a preference for candidates interested in history of science and history of technology.
The aim of the scholarship is to produce a generous funding package for students with outstanding research potential. Candidates should expect to qualify for additional funding from other British/EU or overseas awarding bodies. The main relevant British funding sources that are available also to non-British students are: British Council awards for masters or doctoral study; Overseas Research Studentships (ORS) for doctoral study; and Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) fees-only awards for masters and doctoral study (EU only).
The value of the scholarship awards will depend on individual circumstances, the availability of other funding, and extra costs associated with living in London. Continuation of the award is subject to the holder making satisfactory progress each year on the doctoral programme.
Candidates should indicate on their Imperial College PhD application form if they wish to be considered for a scholarship and submit an outline of their research proposal. There is no separate application form for this scholarship scheme.
The scholarship scheme is available to students applying for October 2005 entry. Candidates wishing to be considered for October 2005 entry should submit their PhD application by 1st July 2005. Scholarship awards are expected to be announced by end of July 2005.
