This is so unfortunate.I wonder why he has to be treated like this, despite all his contribution to that racially biased country.I feel for him and I think Nigeria govt should intervene, afterall our govt and some eminent well meaning Nigerians has in one way or the other contributed positively to that ego inflated country.

Dear Demilola this is not the end of life.May be your coming back to Nigeria will place you on a higher ground. One thing I believe is that if there is no change, there might not be a better result. Cheer up God is taking you some where better.

East or West, Home will always be the best. A very pathetic but not uncommon story! Since the days of Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, discrimination has always been around but the earlier we “learn to accept” that “COLOR” will always be an issue, even among the so-called ‘enlightened and developed’, the easier it will be to adapt and move-on with life.
Brace-up Damilola, you are a star, whether anybody likes it or not and you are destined to be an icon for others to follow.
As “bad” as our country-Nigeria is, back there, you will always be a first-class citizen and no matter what you do (how much more when you do no evil!), no one can deport you.
Be one of those that will say “NIGERIA, arise and take your place”. In a not too distant future, no matter how much they connive, they will queue-up and beg, to visit Nigeria!
Do you remember the likes of Justin Fashanu, one Armstrong and some good footballers who refused to play for Nigeria and were hoping that Britain would field them to the world cup? Alas, they learnt their lesson too-late, despite loosing all dignity! At least Efan Ikoku can boast of having played in the world-cup!!
We might be poor and developing, but we have pride and we shall never, never, for the sake of all the “shine-shine” of a foreign land, forsake our homeland.
Its your choice, if you prefer to ‘beg’ to be accepted as a second-class citizen (and they will soon deport you at the faintest opportunity say, for a minor traffic offence!), go ahead and do that but, if you think you’ve got pride and dignity, shove their residency up their ****-hole, you will always be welcomed in your fathers and grand-fathers land.
May no mistake, its not as bad as they say it is, down there in Naija.
Wish you wisdom.

This is another unfortunate story. Unfortunately, the law they say is blind. I join the other commentators in saying that this is not the end of your life. Your life is still ahead of you. Success in life is measured by the greatness of the obstacles or challenges that one overcomes. Being a lion killer did not get David the limelight, but a Goliath killer surely did. Nevertheless David needed the experience of killing a lion to be able to kill a Goliath. I wish you all the best in whatever decision you choose to pursue. This may be old fashioned, but it works for me, the bible encourages us to commit our ways (decisions) to God and He will perfect them.

“our lives are not determined by what happens to us,but how we react to what happens; not by what life brings, but by attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughs, events and outcomes. It is catalyst ….. a spark that creates extraordinary results” Quoted from Skymall,Holiday Gift Guide 2001.

Damilola, i believe God has a purpose for what is happening to you. I believe God for your life. I know its not easy to accept but believe me, u have a role to play in the Nigerian economy. Please come back home and make this nation great again. Home is home even after centuries, it can not be like another mans land not even the racist home in question.

i think this is an outrage i know this boy on a 1st term basis and he has nothing but good. i am outraged that they could do such a thing to him while this country continue to help out the people that cause nothin but trouble. why dont we put more focus on gettin the murderers and the rapist into jail rather that focusing on innocent people that have nothing but good for this country

a word for damilola - “”When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us” so cheer up!

Destiny has come to play its role, but whether we are Christian or Muslim it will surely have it hand on us. My view is in line with Ganiyat Ojifinni. With God we can never changed all what we have written down in the process of pregnancy i.e. how we are going to spend our life on earth. “Every minute” where we will be, what we are going to do, what we will say and where to sleep each day. All these are known to the knower of the Hidden things. {Al-Batin}. I would like to recommend for Damilola now to leave Britain without further appeal. Nigeria is changing, home is home, I stayed overseas for over 8 years-my experienced is, it is like a cage i.e. bird in a hole. You are lucky Damilola. You will be great in future if you can leave that society now to join your ancestors, where you would make a meaningful recognition in future. Keep fit and laugh, this is the road to your success. Good luck with the rest of your life.

Damilola’s story-Much has been said concerning the ill-treatment of this young chap by the home office- the obiter(statement in passing)by the Judge amounts to nothing…it is like patting the child on the back after a thorough beating.

A thousand and one victims of similar case sometimes never got to the light, some even lost thier lives in the process.I belief that this “people” have no sympathy for any “coloured” person.Majority of the whites working in nigeria do not even have work permit and they are causing great havoc especially in the niger-delta.we treat them like kings here and can get anything done without questioning. I have not heard of any white man deported to thier home country except for the vaswani brothers which was politically motivated. To let you know the extent to which these “people” detest us. A US congressman said-why is the world bodering about AFRICA, let them kill themselve and die of HIV AIDs then we can plant vegetables on their continent.

The decision has been made.Dammy case will not be the first and the last. it is up to him to put his good self together and forge ahead in his pursuit of a good life. Here(nigeria)we will gladly receive dammy.AD ASTRA PER ASPERA…TO THE STARS IN THE GALAXY,THROUGH DIFFICULTIES…

I HAVE ALWAYS HAVE THIS CONTEMPT FOR THIS SELFISH COUNTRY CALLED UK. I WON’T LIKE TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WHAT HER IF I HAVE OTHER OPTIONS. MANY PEOPLE LIKE AJAGBONA DAMILOLA WHO BELIEVED IN THAT COUNTRY OTHER THAN THEIR OWN HOME LAND, NIGERIA HAVE BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED BY DEPORTATION AFTER MANY YEARS OF RESIDENCE THERE.

NIGERIANS WAKE-UP! TO THE REALITY OF WHAT WE ARE , AND WHO WE ARE, AND WHO WE CAN BE! LET US HAVE A POSITIVE THINKING HABIT TOWARDS THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS AND ALSO WORK TOWARDS BEING THE HEROES OF OUR COUNTRY.

REMEMBER, IF YOU THINK NOTHING GOOD ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CANNOT GET ANYTHING GOOD FROM IT.

DAMILOLA’S SITUATION SHOULD BE A GREAT CHALLENGE TO US ALL IN BUILDING OUR NATION.

An Ibo adage says that the man who has been rejected does not reject himslef. Being in the UK or not being there is not as important as what God wants to do in your life which may not be located in the UK, at least for now. I think it will be a misplacement of priority for you to think that your life will end if you leave the UK. A man’s life does not depend so much on his location as it depends on God’s allocation for him. Damilola should know when to fight and when to let go. Perhps it may be the best thing that happened to you. If I may tell you, it is possible that the people who have been playing host to you are becominguncomfortable with your surpassing excellence. Don’t allow yourself to be made to feel sorry for returning to your homeland.

what is so special about here, there is absolutely nothing. think about what the future holds and the importance you attached to england.
At least i know of so many nigerians who are presently languishing in british jails rigt now when actually, they have never been to prison all there life.

I have this believe that until a country’s leadership policy places value on its citizen, as first natural resources, the citizen will always feel inferior.
Well, damilola, you should know that history never lies and will never lie, even if people try to distort the dates, exact thing that happens and the people involved.
we have the history of slavery days, I personally have watched some films on this slavery days,it is very very touching and embarased, people like Luther fought or human rights and we hear of the human rights activist, but no in sensitive case like this, somewhere along the line, the leaders of the country you came from have no say on your case, what a pity. but the UK leaders hav a say if it is one of their citizen we are talking about, what about the aparthaid in South Africa. Botha says that killing the blacks is a services to God.
What are we talking about ?
Just come back home and develope your country, let this experience spore you to fight for human rights like I am doing here in one of the West African countries.

What you can achieve there , you can as well achieve in Nigeria or any of the other African countries, only that we get attracted thee because of the Pounds sterling and pride attached to people who go to abroad, with the false believe that those people are more respected than those of us at home moving the country ahead,Nigeria oil is what the outside world survives on, if the leadership is good enough we should be living like kings and queens in our motherland with plenty of everything.
well Aluta!!!!!! my friend demola

Dami don’t give up for this is not the end of the world, though Naija may not have live up to expectation since independence but life here is worth more than that in the uk, where blacks despite their enormous contributions to that selfish egoistic country, remember the likes of John Fash, Armstrong, Charlton Cole etc. If only Nigerians (both home and in diaspora) could fashion our efforts to this our Naija, we shall be up there. There are several Nigerian professionals in various fields serving other nations instead of putting joint hands to lift this country to where it ought to be, my dear Dami, it is not too late, please come back to your father’s land where YOU are a FIRST CLASS CITIZEN.

OMG! dami i think the same. This is not a racism issue. the poor boy is just a victim of the law of the land. I mean it is very unfortunate for him to have to go back to nigeria after being accepted into cambridge - one of the tops schools in the world. Of course, he has to put up a fight. Do you think cambridge offers comes cheap. I mean it’s not like people don’t have immigration problems to enter nigeria, Bill gates got rejected for a nigerian visa! what will we call that?…rascism as well.

I feel very sorry for dami though. But i don’t its a rascism issue… I think its just what it is as the guy said the “unfairness of the law”

I’m very sad because of the Damilola’s story but I think he shouldn’t loose the hope and should fight until the end.

Everybody is is telling how bad the uk is and advising him to go back to Nigeria but he seems wanting to stay here if you see all the applies to the Home Office so FIGHT WITH HIM INSTEAD OF CRY FOR HIM!!!!

He should try to contact with the Madelaine’s PR (or different ones if it’s better) because they had a great success in order to move the public opinion to act in spite of the hard situation at the end, but that was not their fault. They could be interesting in this issue just because of the challenge and the prestigious they could get back.

This could be one solution but we could try to find together more different solutions to this unfair state.

I would really appreciate if anyone could get me a contact number/email for young Damiolla. I am currently working on a youth politics show for C4. The show will alow young people to voice their concerns and debate on issues such as Immigration, stop and search to name a few.
I think this will be the perfect platform for Damiolla to get his point across to a wide audience, in order to drum up much needed support.
Please contact me; thebridge2000@yahoo.com

Thanking all for your heartfelt support for Dami. But It is my pleasure to let you know that Damilola is back in the U.K. He has his case reconsidered by the Home Office and has been given a temporary residency for three years.

Like you all said in your various comments. God has a purpose for everyone in this world and that purpose will definitely come to pass. All that we need is just faith to keep us going and never to allow fear to overcome us. Either you Live in the U.K., U.S. or Nigeria. Remember, God is everywhere and He is able to take us to our promised land.
